STARK BACK ON TOP OF EUROPEAN TEAM SOLHEIM CUP STANDINGS

Maja Stark

The third Major of 2023 happened last week with the U.S. Women’s Open at Pebble Beach where American Allisen Corpuz secured victory.

It was a historic moment as Corpuz became the first American in 20 years to make U.S. Women’s Open her first LPGA title and won by three shots.

But it was another week where the Europeans shone, especially on the weekend, and gained some crucial points.

Suzann Pettersen is at the helm for Team Europe for the prestigious competition which will take place in Spain for the first time at Finca Cortesin from September 22-24.

The European team will be comprised of the top two players from the LET Solheim Cup standings, six players from the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings, and four captain’s picks.

Three players added points to their tallies in the LET Solheim Cup points ranking with England’s Charley Hull making the biggest move.

Hull finished her week at Pebble Beach with a storming 66 (-6) to end the Major in a tie for second place alongside Jiyai Shin.

And thanks to that incredible Sunday, the Solheim Cup winner has now moved up to fifth place in the rankings with 127.81 points to her name.

Sweden’s Maja Stark, a six-time winner on the LET, secured a top-10 finish in California ending the week in a share of ninth place and has now jumped to the top of the rankings once again.

Stark is in first place with 236.92 points just ahead of compatriot Linn Grant, who has 233.13 points, with the duo currently in pole position to secure the top two spots.

Spain’s Carlota Ciganda sits in third place in the rankings and increased her points tally once again after a T20 finish at the U.S. Women’s Open.

The Spaniard has made a big move in the last two months with her Individual win in Florida on top of good performances at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and U.S. Women’s Open.

There are now just six weeks left until the qualification period ends for Team Europe, with the team being decided after the ISPS Handa World Invitational.
