Four Hurricanes Named WGCA All-American Scholars – University of Miami Athletics

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Following strong performances in the classroom and on the golf course, four Hurricanes were named 2022-23 WGCA All-American Scholars.

Fourth-year junior Franziska Sliper, third-year sophomore Sara Byrne and freshmen Katie Carman and Elisa Villamizar all earned All-American Scholars honors.

Sliper graduated in May with a degree in finance and was named to the Provost’s Honor Roll (3.75+ GPA) for her academic achievements.

Byrne is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in accounting and has made the Provost’s Honor Roll each of the last two semesters. The Douglas, Cork, Ireland native advanced to the NCAA National Championship as an individual this spring, after finishing as the top individual at the Palm Beach Regional.

In her first year as a Hurricane, Carman posted a 3.94 GPA to earn a spot on the All-ACC Academic Team and the Provost’s Honor Roll. Fellow freshman Elisa Villamizar was named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester and is pursuing a finance degree.

The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics and continue to demonstrate the high-level academic achievements of our players.

To be selected, a student-athlete must:

  • Have an overall cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher.
  • Be an amateur and on the team’s roster through the conclusion of the team’s season.
  • Have played in 50% of the college’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year nominated through the team’s conference championship.
