England’s Charley Hull loves teeing it up in her home country and is looking forward to the week ahead at the AIG Women’s Open.
However, it is also an added bonus for the 27-year-old that she lives just 35 minutes away and can stay at home during a major week.
Hull has experience here on the heathland course at Walton Heath, having first played here 10 years ago and she also played here earlier this year.
It is a golf course that the Solheim Cup star enjoys visually and one that she hopes she will do well on.
“I played here back in it was the end of February, beginning of March and I played with my friend Thomas, and I really enjoyed it back then,” said Hull.
“I have played a couple of times and I really, really like it. It kind of suits my eye. It’s also nice to be at home. I’m staying at home because I only live 35 minutes away. It’s really good. It’s just nice to have home comforts this week.”
The three-time LET winner will get her campaign underway at 8.20 am (local time) on Thursday alongside world number one Nelly Korda and world number five Lydia Ko.
Hull heads into this week off the back of a T35 finish at the 2023 FREED GROUP Women’s Scottish Open Presented by Trust Golf.
While she also had back-to-back runner-up finishes at the U.S. Women’s Open and the Aramco Team Series presented by PIF – London in July.
And despite having played the course, Hull knows it will still be a test but likes the venue and has good memories here from when she was younger.
She explained: “I’ve actually played it a few times, but I’ve not played it off these tees. I think it will be very scorable. There are a few holes I won’t be hitting the driver on; it’s just getting your head around that.
“You can just see it right ahead of you, and you can see the fairways, the shapes and that’s where links sometimes it just feels like you’re hitting into a field. It’s nice, it’s got the heather and the trees on it, as well, even though there’s not a lot of trees. I just like the feel of it.
“It suits my eye. I really do like this golf course. I played here first I think back in 2013, and I really liked it then, and it was with my dad. I played with Sam Torrance on a special golf day. I’ve just got some good memories of this place, but it is a nice golf course and it’s not super bouncy, so you can still hit the ball high, which I like.”
