Catching up with Junior Shannon Kennedy


East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State junior women’s golfer Shannon Kennedy grew up just outside of Detroit and started golfing as a youngster. She joined the Spartans as a walk-on two years ago and has found a home in East Lansing. As the summer winds down before the 2023-24 school year, we catch up with the team.

Name: Shannon Kennedy

Hometown: Bloomfield Hills, Mich.

Class: Junior

Why did you choose Michigan State?

The incredible golf facilities and competitive team culture.

What’s your favorite club in your bag?

My 2-iron.

How long have you been playing golf and how did you get into the game?

I have been playing since I was 5. I grew up playing and learning at the Detroit Golf Club with my brother and the neighborhood boys.

What course that you’ve played is your favorite?

Forest Akers West. No place like home!

What course is your dream to play?

Augusta National

What’s your favorite of the majors?

The ones that Valen plays in.

Do you have any pre-round rituals or superstitions?

I give my teammates a fist bump and I use an arcade token that we got in Arizona as a ball marker when I need some extra help putting.

If you had to watch one movie on repeat, what would it be?

Miracle.

What person has made the biggest impact on your career and how so?

Sydney Naro. She’s awesome!

Who would be your three dinner guests?

Depends what we are having!
