Men's Golf Part of Loaded Field at Sahalee Players Championship

SAMMAMISH, Wash. – No. 19 Arizona Men’s Golf’s opening week of the 2023-24 season continues with a second event as the Wildcats participate in the Sahalee Players Championship on Saturday and Sunday. Arizona finished a three-day run at the Folds of Honor Collegiate in Michigan on Wednesday and flew straight to Washington. Held at iconic Sahalee Country Club just east of Seattle, the event is in its third year as a college tournament after nearly 30 years as a marquee amateur championship.

“We played some good golf at various times earlier this week in Michigan, and I am looking forward to seeing us showcase some of our growth from the Folds of Honor,” said head coach Jim Anderson. “Our lineup is a hungry group of golfers who are excited to get back out there and take on a picturesque course like Sahalee with its rich history and legacy. We have some good course knowledge from previous practice rounds at Sahalee, so our gameplan will put everyone in good scoring positions.”

Sophomore Filip Jakubcik led the Wildcats for the week at American Dunes Golf Club, finishing in a tie for sixth at 1-over. It marked the second top-10 career performance for Jakubcik who also finished in the top 10 in the same event a year ago. Arizona got a second top-20 performance from senior Sam Sommerhauser who finished in a tie for 16th place at 4-over par. He shaved five strokes off his score from last year’s Folds of Honor Collegiate for the 5th top-20 showing of his career.

The event mirrors the Pac-12 Championships with six-man lineups and the five lowest scores counting. The Wildcats will utilize their lineup from the Folds of Honor Collegiate while adding junior Johnny Walker as their sixth golfer.

Arizona will tee off for 36 holes on Saturday at 8:25 a.m. (MST) alongside Wake Forest and USC before capping the weekend with 18 holes on Sunday.
