Vols Capture Visit Knoxville Collegiate Title in First Tournament of the Season


LOUDON, Tenn. – The 10th-ranked Tennessee men’s golf team held off a hot Ole Miss team while playing one man short to secure a win at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate.   

As a team, the Vols shot 3-under in the final round and 25-under overall to produce a one-stroke win over the Rebels. The team finish is the 11th-best 54-hole team score in relation to par.

“It’s great, these guys have never had the experience of playing in a home tournament,” said Webb. “So, to come out here and do this in front of friends and family, and the members of Tennessee National who have been so supportive of our program.”

Sunday’s victory marks the ninth win of the Brennan Webb era. He is now just two wins shy of former coach Mike Malarkey (1976-98) who is third in career tournament wins as a head coach.

Tennessee’s highest finisher, Evan Woosley-Reed, fired a 64 in round two and final round 66 to get to 9-under overall. The sophomore’s 54-hole finish was the lowest of his collegiate career. The Shelbyville native’s fourth place finish is a career best.

Jake Hall logged a fifth-place finish on Sunday after posting three consecutive rounds of par or better. The Knoxville native fired a round three 66 to shoot a three-day total of 7-under. He now has four top-10 career finishes.

UT’s final top 10 finisher, Bryce Lewis, notched a three-day total score of 4-under. His tied for eighth place finish marks his ninth top 10 career finish.

Lance Simpson, the final member of Tennessee’s lineup, posted a 1-under total. He finished tied for 17th in the tournament. 

Bruce Murphy competed as an individual. The Johns Creek, Georgia, native logged a total score of 2-over and finished tied for 23rd in his collegiate debut.

Laurent Desmarchais, who also competed individually,  logged a 7-over total and placed tied for 42nd.

True freshman Jean-Philippe Parr registered a 10-over finish in his Tennessee debut. He placed tied for 53rd.

The final individual, Josh Hill, shot 15-over through three rounds to place tied for 67th.
