Barcos Climbs to 11th for Utah Golf on Final Day of Husky Invitational

BREMERTON, Wash. – Javier Barcos vaulted up 16 spots by shooting a 3-under 69, which counted for the lowest score of the final round for the University of Utah’s men’s golf team, which completed play at the Husky Invitational on Tuesday in Bremerton, Wash.

“We were closer this week than last week,” said head coach Garrett Clegg. “I know finishing ninth is not at all what we expect of ourselves, but Javi played well and that was good to see. We just need to clean up our decision making and execution for Notre Dame.”

Barcos knocked four strokes off his round two score to get to 3-under and finish the tournament tied for 11th. He began his day on the 10th hole and got off to a hot start with a pair of birdies to post a 2-under 34 for the first half of his round. The junior finished up the front nine by collecting two more birdies to complete the tournament with a 54-hole score of 3-under.

Another player who recorded his best score of the tournament, Brandon Robison was razor-sharp on the back nine, accumulating four red numbers and shooting 3-under. Robison added another in the final nine to conclude a day where he climbed 17 spots on the leaderboard to share 36th.

Braxton Watts tallied 13 pars on the day and finished the competition with a birdie on the par-5 ninth. The junior was 5-over for the tournament and left Washington tied for 32nd. Gabriel Palacious posted a 54-hole score of 6-over to tie for 55th and Peter Jung placed 72nd. As a team, the Utes were 2-over on Tuesday to put them at plus-4 overall, tying them for ninth.

All three Utes participating in the Husky Individual Invitational put together excellent performances, starting with Davis Johnson, who put up his second straight 6-under 66, matching the career-best he carded in the second round on Monday. Johnson ended the tournament 9-under to grab a share of fourth.

Tanner Telford crafted a 2-under 70 and joined Johnson in the top 10 by tying for ninth, while Sergio Jimenez picked two birdies on each half of the course and scored an eagle on the sixth hole to craft a 3-under 69 that put him at 4-under overall and even with two other players in 17th.
