Virginia Men's Golf | Lee Leads UVA to Third-Place Finish at Highlands Invitational

WESTCHESTER, Ill. – For the second consecutive tournament, UVA sophomore Bryan Lee led the Cavaliers in scoring as Virginia placed third at the Highlands Invitational, just one shot behind co-winners Wake Forest and Missouri. UVA shot 3-under 285 on Tuesday for a two-day total of 30-under 834.

The Deacons shot -9, 278 during the final round while Missouri shot -9, 279, to overtake UVA down the stretch. The tournament was held at Chicago Highlands Club.

Lee’s finished matched his best as a collegiate and was his second consecutive top-10 outing this year. He shot 2-under 70 on Tuesday for a career-best score of 11-under 205.

Ben James, playing his first event of the season, was eighth at 7-under 209, including a 73 to close the tournament. James’ finish was his 12th top-10 performance in 14 outings. He missed UVA’s season opener at the Texas Valero Collegiate after competing for Team USA at the Walker Cup in early September.

Junior Paul Chang was 12th in just his second collegiate event at 5-under 211. He shot 71 during the final round. Chang opened his UVA varsity career with a 10th-place performance at the Texas Valero Collegiate after competing for the University’s club team his first two years on Grounds.

Deven Patel was one shot behind Chang in 15th place at 4-under 212. He posted a final-round score of 72. Chris Fosdick rounded out UVA’s scoring with a 22nd-place showing at 214. He also posted a closing score of 72. George Duangmanee, competing as an individual, made it a sweep by the Cavaliers of shooting under par. He also tied for 15th at 212 with a final round score of 71.

UVA will return to action Oct. 2 at the Maidstone Invitational in East Hamptons, N.Y.
