Vols Drop Match to Aggies to Conclude SEC Fall Preview


BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The fifth-ranked Tennessee men’s golf team dropped its match 3&2 against Texas A&M on Wednesday to close out the SEC Fall Preview.

Redshirt seniors Jake Hall and Bryce Lewis captured match wins for the Vols at Birmingham Country Club on Wednesday.

Hall gave UT its first win against the Aggies after defeating Michael Heidelbaugh 2&1. The Knoxville native started his match hot and with two up after shooting 2-under on the first three holes. Heidelbaugh evened the match through hole 13, but Hall responded with birdies on 14 on 16 and won the match on the 17th hole.

Lewis gave Tennessee its second and final win of the day after defeating Aaron Pounds on the 19th hole. The Hendersonville native was down one through four holes and then went up three on hole 13. Pounds then leveled the match on hole 17 and extended the match to 19 holes. Lewis then registered a clutch par on the 19th to win.

Evan Woosley-Reed was defeated 4&2 by Phichaksn Maichon in Wednesday’s match to give Texas A&M its first point of the day.

Texas A&M’s Vishnu Sadagopan defeated Lance Simpson 1-up to earn the Aggies’ second point of the day.

Texas A&M golfer Jaime Montojo defeated Caleb Surratt 2&1 to earn the final point to defeat the Vols.

The Vols return to action at the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Indiana, on Oct. 1st.
