Virginia Athletics | Hoos Head to Stanford Intercollegiate for Final Fall Tournament

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.  – The No. 28 Virginia women’s golf team travels to the west coast this week for its final fall event. The Cavaliers will compete at the Stanford Intercollegiate hosted by Dr. Condoleezza Rice, this weekend at the par-71 Stanford Golf Course. Competition takes place Friday through Sunday, Oct. 20-22.

With October being Breast Cancer Awareness month, the tournament serves as a fundraiser for the “Play for Her” campaign with a goal to raise $225,000. This year’s event is dedicated to Nancy McDaniel, the California women’s golf coach. Donations to the Play for Her campaign can be made here.

The first and second rounds get underway starting at 7:30 a.m. PT from the first and 10th tees and Sunday’s final round features a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. PT. UVA is paired with Colorado and Iowa State during the opening round. Those teams tee off Friday at 12:40 p.m. PT from the 10th tee.

The 19-team field includes Arizona, Arizona State, Auburn, California, Colorado, Denver, Georgia, Iowa State, Michigan, Northwestern, Oregon, Oregon State, San Jose State, Stanford, Texas, UCLA, USC, Washington

UVA will field a team of Kiera Bartholomew, Rebecca Skoler, Jaclyn LaHa, Amanda Sambach and Megan Propeck, the same five players who competed for UVA at the Windy City Collegiate.

Sambach currently leads UVA with a 70.56 stroke average. She has a pair of top-10 finishes this season including a win at the Glass City Invitational.

Virginia was sixth at last year’s event at 3-over 855. Propeck and Jennifer Cleary led the team with 13th-place finishes at 1-uncer 213.
