David Ford Named ACC Player Of The Month

David Ford is the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Month for October after leading the Tar Heels to victories in the Williams Cup and East Lake Cup and winning the individual title at the Williams Cup.

The junior from Peachtree Corners, Ga., also was the ACC Player of the Month in October 2022. He was the ACC Player of the Year and a first-team All-America last season.

In three tournaments in October Ford tied for fifth at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational, won the Williams Cup on the first hole of a playoff and tied for second in stroke play and won two matches in the East Lake Cup.

In addition to winning team titles at Eagle Point in Wilmington and the East Lake Cup in Atlanta, the Tar Heels finished second by one shot at the Hogan.

Ford averaged 69.43 over seven rounds of stroke play. He defeated Georgia Tech’s Hiroshi Tai 5&4 in the semifinals and Frederik Kjettrup of Florida State 4&3 in the championship match in the East Lake Cup.

Ford also was a member of the three-man United States team that won the title in October in the World Amateur Team Championship in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Ford shot a final-round 64 to tie for fifth in the individual standings and was a team counter in three of the four rounds.

Ford is currently No. 5 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. He is Carolina’s all-time leader in stroke average (70.16) and is a combined 85 strokes under par in 83 collegiate rounds. No other Tar Heel in school history that has played at least 20 tournaments is better than a combined six strokes under par.
