WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. – Washington picked up right where it left off Tuesday and finished strong as the Huskies jumped a pair of spots on the leaderboard to land tied for seventh after the second round of the Southwestern Invitational at North Ranch Country Club.

“We were better today than we were yesterday,” head coach Alan Murray said. “The guys benefitted from another day of practice after the round yesterday. There was some good golf from the guys again today.”

Taehoon Song posted a team-best round, as he shot a clean three-under 68 and heads into the final day of the tournament tied for 12th. Petr Hruby also played a crucial role for the Huskies with five birdies tallied, putting him back into the mix as he now sits two-over par heading into the final day of competition.

“Taehoon went bogey-free and shot three-under par, really solid playing from Tae,” Murray said. “Petr bounced back after being disappointed with yesterday’s round, he shot a two-under par round today which included five birdies.”

Hruby, Song, Teddy Lin, and Drew Warford each carded improved rounds on Tuesday and showed clear signs of comfortability as the foursome combined for 14 birdies and four-under par on the day. Finn Koelle rounded out the UW five at two-over to land tied for 21st overall as the freshman remains even through two rounds.

“Teddy was his usual steady self and shot even par,” Murray mentioned. “Warford started with a triple-bogey on his first hole but battled back to shoot one-over which counted for us. It was a really gutsy performance from him today. Finn battled hard and shot two-over, not what he was hoping for but certainly showed that he is close to playing really well.”

Meanwhile, Justin Bai notched an 82 as the freshman looks to conclude his first collegiate tournament on a high note Wednesday.

“We moved up a couple of spots on the leaderboard and are not totally out of it,” Murray said. “I think we can have a good one tomorrow and see where that can put us.”
