Blue Devils Resume Action at Moon Golf Invitational


MELBOURNE, Fla. – Following a day off due to inclement weather at the Moon Golf Invitational, the Duke women’s golf team resumed action in Melbourne, Fla.  The Blue Devils struggled on day two and will return to action on Tuesday with a 9 a.m., shotgun start at the 6,503-yard, Par-72 Suntree Country Club Classic Course.
 
How It Happened

  • The Blue Devils opened play on hole No. 10 at 9:30 a.m., and played the first nine holes in cold, rainy weather.There was an approximately 30-minute weather delay as the Blue Devils were on the front nine due to rain.On the back nine, the weather cleared and warmed up.
  • Graduate student Emma McMyler led the Blue Devils on Monday with a 76.After a bogey to start her day, McMyler parred four straight holes, before heading to the 383-yard, par-4 hole No. 15.She hit her 5-iron from 163 to five feet and sank her lone birdie of the day to return to even par.McMyler, who hails from San Antonio, Texas, shot 4-over during the final 11 holes to close her round.She hit 14 greens on the day.
  • Both senior Anne Chen and freshman Katie Li turned in a 78 on day two.
  • Chen, a product of Sugar Land, Texas, shot a 5-over, 41, on the front nine, which included her lone birdie on No. 12.She hit her pitching wedge from 113 yards and hit it so well she hit the pin and the ball settled 17 feet away from the cup.Chen went on the sink the birdie putt.On the final nine, she totaled eight pars and a bogey to shoot 1-over, 37.
  • Li was one of two Blue Devils to birdie her opening hole, No. 10.She hit her 50-degree wedge from 53 yards to 10 feet and rolled in the putt.Li, who is from Basking Ridge, N.J., also birdied hole No. 6 as she drained a 10-foot putt.
  • Junior Rylie Heflin couldn’t get much going in round two and shot an 80.She was limited to one birdie on the 350-yard, par-4 sixth hole as she hit her 58-degree wedge from 90 yards to 10 feet.
  • With two birdies over her opening five holes, senior Phoebe Brinker had a solid start at even par.She rolled in a 7-foot birdie on No. 10 and a 15-footer for birdie on No. 14.Brinker, a product of Wilmington, Del., went on to finish with an 83.

 
Notes

  • Maisie Filler of Florida continues to lead the individual action with a 9-under, 135.Only nine golfers are under par heading into the final round.
  • Both LSU and Auburn lead the team action…
