Men's Golf Looks to Clinch Top Spot in Mexico Tuesday

The Arizona State men’s golf team is in the mix for the 15-team title along with several others at the Cabo Collegiate Invitational in Mexico, which finishes Tuesday with 18 holes.

Preston Summerhays shot 3-under 68 in the second round to tie for eighth on the leader board. His back nine included four birdies in five holes to close out day two. Josele Ballester is also tied for eighth after a 1-under round.

ASU earned the lead on the par-3 holes, shooting 2-under and was the only team under par on the short holes. Preston Summerhays leads the field on the par-3 holes at 5-under, while Mjaaseth is tied for second in par-5 holes, shooting 5-under. Josele Ballester leads the individual field with most pars, having earned 28.

BONUS COVERAGE MONDAY

The best news of Monday was 2022 All-American Mason Andersen earning a trip to the British Open with a win on the Korn Ferry Tour at Argentine Open in Buenos Aires. The Korn Ferry Tour crowned yet another first-time winner, its fifth in a row to start the 2024 season, as Andersen defeated two-time winner Kris Ventura on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff. Through the Visa Argentina Open’s partnership with The R&A, Andersen’s victory also earned him an exemption for the 2024 Open Championship at Royal Troon. Andersen began the day six strokes back and bogeyed two of the first five holes
