Men Wrap up Day One at The Goodwin


SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (March 28, 2024) – Washington State men’s golf concluded day one of The Goodwin at 14-over, 294 Thursday night, sitting in 24th of the 31-team field.

Sophomore Sam Renner opened the day on hole 10 and was 1-under at the turn after parring every hole except for his birdie on 17. On the front nine, he added another pair of birdies, but three bogeys kept him at an even 70 for the day as he sits tied for 21st entering day two.

Senior Preston Bebich birdied his first hole of the round, but scattered six bogeys and two more birdies the rest of the way for a 3-over, 73 round score, putting him in a tie for 68th.

Junior Franklin Lydra sits tied for 115th at 5-over, 75 after also recording a birdie on his opening hole. After sitting 2-over at the turn, one more birdie put him at 1-over, before two bogeys and a double bogey rounded out his 5-over round.

Redshirt freshman Ben Borgida ends round one in a tie for 137th at 6-over, 76. After a couple of early bogeys, a birdie on his eight hole helped him sit 2-over at the turn. A double-bogey on his second hole of the front nine put him at 4-over, before he scattered a birdie and three bogeys to end the round.

Fifth year Pono Yanagi couldn’t get into a groove, but still managed to par 11 holes on the day despite his five bogeys and pair of double bogeys as he finished at 9-over, 79 in a tie for 162nd.

The Cougars will continue with day two of The Goodwin, hosted by Stanford at TPC Harding Park, tomorrow, March 29 with tee times beginning at 7 a.m.
