Men’s Golf Selected to Second Straight National Golf Invitational

PULLMAN, Wash (May 7, 2024) – Washington State Men’s Golf will continue its season, as the Cougars have been selected to its third postseason tournament in program history, and second-straight Golfweek National Golf Invitational Championship.

The 2024 Men’s NGI will take place May 16-19 at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Arizona. The 54-hole tournament will have 18 holes each day from Friday, May 17 through Sunday, May 19.

“Being the first team out of the NCAA Regional stings, but these guys want to keep competing – and the NGI gives them a great opportunity to do that,” said Head Coach Dustin White. “We’re excited to go down and finish our season on a high note. Most of them have seen the course so that gives a bit of a head start. I know they’re hungry to show what they’re made of and give themselves a chance to come out on top.”

In May 2022, the NCAA announced it would allow schools to play in one season-ending event, similar to college basketball’s NIT. By July 2022, the inaugural National Golf Invitational was created in a partnership between Golfweek and Ak-Chin Southern Dunes with Golfweek’s Lance Ringler serving as the Invitational’s tournament director. A committee determined the invitation-only field using both the Golfweek/Sagarin and Golfstat rankings, while also considering teams who had strong regular seasons.

By receiving a bid into the 2024 Men’s National Golf Invitational, Washington State will play in a postseason tournament as a team for the second-straight season, and just the third time in program history.

Besides the last two NGI tournaments, the last time the Cougars played as a team in a postseason event came during the 2001-02 season when WSU qualified for the 2002 NCAA West Regional. WSU Men’s Golf Head Coach Dustin White will have been a part of all three postseason tournaments for the Cougars, having played in the 2002 NCAA West Regional as a player.
