#5 Vols Make Cut at NCAA Championships

CARLSBAD, Calif. – The fifth-ranked Tennessee men’s golf team made the cut for the fourth round of stroke play at the NCAA Championships Sunday after shooting 6-over in round three.

Monday’s final round of stroke play consists of 15 teams. Following the round, the field will be cut to the top eight teams who will then advance to the match play portion of the tournament. 

After 54-holes of stroke play, Tennessee is tied for 14th at 27-over with East Tennessee State and seven shots back of eighth place.

The redshirt senior duo of Bryce Lewis and Jake Hall paced the Vols in round three with a pair of 1-over 73s.

After starting his round 2-over, Lewis was clutch following the turn and played his final nine holes of the day at 1-under thanks to a birdie on his 18th hole. He enters round four tied for 40th at 6-over.

Hall is tied for 95th and 12-over ahead of day four.

Hall and Lewis played 1.94 shots under the average score on Sunday.

Lance Simpson and Evan Woosley-Reed provided the Vols with their final counting rounds of the day after firing a pair of 2-over 74s.

Simpson is tied for 40th ahead of the final round of stroke play as Woosley-Reed is tied for 51st.

Bruce Murphy shot an 80 in round three and sits tied for 113th going into Monday’s round.
