TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – As graduation gets underway at The University of Alabama this weekend, more than 90 Crimson Tide student-athletes are celebrating earning their degrees during the spring semester.
A total of 92 University of Alabama student-athletes are slated to earn 96 undergraduate and graduate degrees this weekend. The Tide’s tally includes a World Champion and Tokyo Olympic medalist, four NCAA champions, 24 All-Americans and eight CoSIDA Academic All-Americans.
This year’s spring graduates also includes student-athletes who were part of CFP National Championship squads and multiple Southeastern Conference Championships in football, gymnastics, men’s basketball and softball.
Olympic silver medalist, World champion and All-American swimmer Rhyan White, along with NCAA Champions Kalia Antoniou (swimming and diving), Mercy Chelangat (track and field/cross country), Lexi Graber (gymnastics) and Morgan Scott (swimming and diving) highlight the Crimson Tide’s May graduates.
NFL All-Pro, All-American and National Champion Landon Collins, who just finished his seventh season in the NFL, returns to Tuscaloosa to claim his diploma after earning his degree this spring. Also back for graduation after beginning their pro careers are Tyler Ras and Morgan McCullough from baseball.
Among the Crimson Tide’s 96 degrees, there are 69 bachelor’s and 27 master’s, with swimming and diving’s John Shelstad, Morgan Liberto and Kensey McMahon, along with track and field’s Chago Basso coming away with a pair of degrees. Each took advantage of the University’s Accelerated Master’s Program (AMP), allowing them to earn both a bachelor’s and master’s degree, concurrently.
The Crimson Tide’s May Graduates Include:
- Seven student-athletes are graduating this weekend after earning both All-America and CoSIDA Academic All-America honors during their UA careers: Mercy Chelangat (track and field/cross country), Daija Lampkin (track and field), Morgan Liberto (swimming and diving), Derek Maas (swimming and diving), Nicholas Perera (swimming), Kaylee Tow (softball) and Samantha Zelden (track and field)
- All-SEC women’s tennis player and Academic All-American Alba Cortina Pou earned her MBA during the spring semester
- Chago Basso, Liberto and Kensey McMahon are among the All-Americans graduating with both a bachelor’s and master’s degree through UA’s AMP program
