Aurilia Leads Wildcats With 4-Under Second Round

WINDERMERE, Fla. – Senior Chaz Aurilia put on a putting display in Monday’s second round of the Isleworth Collegiate with a round of 68 to keep Arizona Men’s Golf in a crowded pack of teams on the leaderboard. Arizona’s even par day paced them into seventh place at 4-over par entering Tuesday’s final round.

“We wanted to come out strong from the first hole and set a great tone for the day, which was a great accomplishment to see,” said head coach Jim Anderson. “Hats off to Chaz for a great round to pace us today as he was dialed in on every shot. We slowed down our scoring pace a bit after the turn, but we finished the day four strokes better than yesterday. If we keep up our quality play, we should finish near the top of the leaderboards.”

Aurilia opened his day with a 1-under performance on the front nine before a streak of four birdies in five holes beginning on the 558-yard, par-5 13th hole. His round of 68 tied the second lowest of his career behind his 5-under round of 65 to open the 2022-23 season at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate.

Behind Aurilia’s 4-under round on Monday, Chase Sienkiewicz and Filip Jakubcik carded 1-over rounds of 73. Sienkiewicz is tied with Aurilia in 13th place at 1-under par for the tournament.

At 4-over par, Arizona is one stroke behind Illinois and North Florida in fifth place. The Wildcats are three strokes back of LSU and six strokes behind Purdue. Auburn and Florida have pulled away from the rest of the field at 20-under and 14-under par respectively.
