Vols Remain Tied for Second at Mason Rudolph Championship; Trio Tied for Second Individually

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – The 14th-ranked Tennessee men’s golf team completed round two at the Mason Rudolph Championship Tuesday at the Vanderbilt Legends Club, remaining tied for second place as a team after shooting 6-under over the course of the day.

The Vols are 10-under overall through two rounds—led by the duo of Caleb Surratt and Bryce Lewis, who each shot 3-under 68 for the second consecutive day and are tied for second place in the 84-man field.

Competing as an individual, redshirt freshman Lance Simpson is also tied for second place. Simpson shot a 1-under 70 on Monday before registering a 5-under 66 round on Tuesday. Simpson’s highest career finish up to this point came during the fall at the SEC Match Play Championship in which he finished tied for 10th place.

Including Lewis and Surratt’s 3-under performances, each of Tennessee’s four counting rounds were all par or better, as freshman Josh Hill and sophomore Laurent Desmarchais each shot even par for the day.

Hill’s round of even par came after he shot 1-over on Monday, bringing him into a tie for 25th place entering the tournament’s final round. Hill, competing as a member of Tennessee’s lineup for the third time in his young collegiate career, is on pace for his highest finish as a member of the lineup, and second career top-25 finish in five collegiate tournaments.

Desmarchais followed up a 2-over round on Monday with an even par showing on Tuesday, moving up into a tie for 30th place.

Redshirt junior Jake Hall shot 1-over for the second consecutive day and is tied with Desmarchais in 30th place entering Wednesday’s final round.

Entering Wednesday in a tie for second place with Mississippi State at 10-under, Tennessee is searching for its fifth top-two team finish of the season—including third in a row after a tied-for-second-place finish at the All-American Intercollegiate and last week’s team title at the Mossy Oak Collegiate.

LEWIS CONTINUES TO ASCEND IN RECORD BOOKS: With Tuesday’s 3-under 68, Bryce Lewis recorded his 65th career round of par or better—claiming sole ownership of third place in program history.

David Skinns (2001-05) is the all-time program leader with 67 career rounds of par or better, while Lorenzo Scalise (2014-18) is second with 66.
