Two Bears In Top 10 At Pac-12 Championships

Ochoa, Borrelli Both Under Par

PHOENIX – The California women’s golf team got out to a strong start through 18 holes at the Pac-12 Championships on Monday at Papago Golf Course in Phoenix, earning a pair of top 10 individual finishes from junior Cristina Ochoa and graduate student Annika Borrelli. The Golden Bears are currently tied for fourth place in the 11-team field with an even-par 288 team score.

Ochoa, who has been the Bears’ low scorer a team-best three times this year, finds herself in a tie for fifth individually after round one. She started the back nine hot with birdies on two of the first three holes, eventually carding a 2-under 70 in round one.

Also sitting in the top 10 is Borrelli, who finished one stroke behind Ochoa at 1-under 71. Junior Mika Jin shot an even-par 72, coming in right behind Borrelli in a tie for 16th.

Olivia Lee also stepped up in her most important round yet as a Bear, shooting 3-over 75 for the second-lowest round of her freshman campaign.

Cal heads into day two just one stroke behind Stanford for third place. USC (-9) and Arizona (-6) currently lead the team standings.
