Mizzou Women’s Golf Summer Update

The Missouri women’s golf team has enjoyed its summer break in 2023 with its student-athletes succeeding in multiple summer amateur events.

MELANIE WALKER QUALIFIES FOR US AMATEUR

Among the highlights for the Tigers are rising sophomore Melanie Walker qualifying for the U.S. Women’s Amateur. Walker earned her spot at the championship by carding a two-under 70 on June 29 at Chagrin Valley Country Club in Ohio, placing third overall of 67 golfers during the qualifying round.

Walker now advances to the final rounds, held at Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles, California from August 7 to 13. Mizzou head coach Caroline Westrup will serve as Walker’s caddie during the event.

TYNAN REACHES BRITISH AMATEUR QUARTERFINALS

Walker isn’t the only Tiger to have success at their nation’s amateur championship as incoming student-athlete Ffion Tynan reached the quarterfinals at the British Amateur Championship.

Tynan reached the knockout stage of the championship after finishing 45th in stroke play with a two-round score of 149. A native of Wales, Tynan then won her first three matches of match play – earning a 4&3 victory in the Round of 64, a 3&2 win in the Round of 32 and a 5&3 victory in the Sweet 16. The junior saw her run end with a narrow defeat to the eventual champion, Chiara Horder of Germany, in 19 holes.

WINNIE NG WINS COROLLA CUP

Incoming graduate transfer Winne Ng made a splash this week, claiming the Corolla Cup Ladies Championship in Malaysia for her second win on tour. Ng shot a three-round total of 216, winning a playoff on the first hole with a birdie for the victory.

DUO SHINES AT EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP

A pair of Tigers keyed their team’s performance at the European Championship this week.

Tynan represented the Welsh National Team in the highly-competitive Ladies Championship. While Wales failed to advance as a team to the quarterfinals, Tynan posted a team-best tally with a five-under 139 to place 14th overall of 114 golfers at the championship.

Incoming freshman Fleur van Beek also represented Netherlands at the European Girls Championship, helping the Dutch team to the semifinal round. The incoming Tiger placed eighth overall with a one-under 141 during 36 holes of stroke play. The Netherlands then defeated Denmark in the quarterfinals before falling to Spain in the semifinal round.
