Logan Leads Bulldogs In Strong Second Round At Blessings

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – After a back-and-forth first round at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational, the Mississippi State men’s golf team recorded a complete performance in Round 2, carding a 7-under 281. The round moved the second-place Bulldogs to 7-under overall and cut Arkansas lead from nine strokes to six heading into Wednesday’s final round.

MSU holds a six-stroke lead over third-place Washington. State’s 281 tied Washington for the lowest team total in the second round and matched the Bulldogs’ second lowest to-par round this season. Alongside Washington and Arkansas, MSU is one of just three teams with all players inside the top-25.

“I’m really proud of the grit and composure we played with today,” head coach Dusty Smith said. “I definitely thought it was going to be a day where we could make some birdies, and we were able to do that.”

Individually, the Bulldogs were led by 5-under 67 from Hunter Logan. After shooting a 1-over in the tournament’s opening round, Logan rebounded with six birdies on Tuesday, moving into a tie for second place in the field. Logan’s 67 marked his fifth round in the 60s this season, and the 23rd of his career. He now holds sole possession of the third-most rounds in the 60s in program history.

Garrett Endicott and Pedro Cruz Silva posted the second-lowest rounds for the Bulldogs on the day, both carding a 1-under 71. Endicott recorded five birdies and climbed the leaderboard into a tie for 23rd. Cruz Silva shot a bogey-free front nine and worked his way to as much as 3-under for the round, before two late bogeys moved him back to a 1-under total. He sits in a tie for sixth place heading into the tournament’s final round.

“It was nice to see Garrett bounce back after yesterday’s round, and Hunter Logan played some outstanding golf out there all day,” Smith continued. “Harrison, Pedro and Josep showed so much character all day long. They battled hard for every shot, which is what a coach wants to see.”

Harrison Davis recorded his second consecutive even round in the tournament. The junior sits in 11th place after 36 holes. Josep Serra rounded out the Bulldog lineup with all five landing in the top 25 on the individual leaderboard. He is in a tie for 21st.
