Holden in 4th, Lady Vols in 6th Entering Day Two of Tar Heel Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Tennessee women’s golf is in sixth place after two rounds at the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational on Monday, spearheaded by senior Kayla Holden, who sits tied for fourth out of 80 participants.

After shooting 2-over (74) in round one at Governors Club, Holden shot a season-best 67 in round two – the second-lowest score in the round – to catapult her into the top five. Her stellar round was driven by eight birdies, including five in six holes during the front nine. As a team, Tennessee shot 9-over (297) in round one and a much-improved even-par (288) in round two for a 36-hole score of 9-over (585).

Sophomore Manassanan Chotikabhukkana sits tied for 19th place headed into Tuesday’s action. Dating back to her performance at the Mary Fossum Invitational, the Thailand native has shot 74 or better in five consecutive rounds, including an even-par 72 in round one on Monday.

Angela Arora shot 3-over (75) in both rounds and is in 45th place. Right behind her are senior Vanessa Gilly and sophomore Bailey Davis, both tied for 49th at 7-over (151). Davis used a bogey-free front nine in round two to shoot even-par.

Competing as an individual, freshman Martina Lopez-Lanchares excelled in her collegiate debut, highlighted by a 3-under (69) in round two. The Spaniard sits tied for 39th place with a score of 5-over (149). The Lady Vols will conclude the Tar Heel Invitational with 18 holes tomorrow morning, with the shotgun start beginning at 9 a.m. ET.
