STANFORD, Calif. – The Virginia women’s golf team finished the opening round of the Stanford Intercollegiate in fourth place with a score of 1-under 283. The Cavaliers were led by first year Jaclyn LaHa who shot 3-under 68 at the par-71 Stanford Golf Course.
LaHa, a native of Pleasanton, Calif., got off to a hot start by posting birdies on four of her first six holes. She finished the day with five birdies and two bogeys to stand tied for third place after the opening 18 holes.
Megan Propeck also went under par, shooting 1-under 70, to finish Friday’s play in 10th place. Amanda Sambach was in 32nd place at 1-over 72 and Rebecca Skoler rounded out UVA’s scoring with a 2-over 73 to be in 42nd position. Kiera Bartholomew shot 81 and was in 98th place.
Virginia was one of four teams in the 19-team field to shoot under par on Friday. UCLA leads the event at 10-under 274 while USC was in second place at 5-under 279 and Texas was third at -4, 280.
Playing with Colorado and Iowa State, UVA will tee off Saturday starting at 8:25 a.m. PT from the first tee. The tournament runs through Sunday.

With October being Breast Cancer Awareness month, the tournament serves as a fundraiser for the “Play for Her” campaign with a goal to raise $225,000. This year’s event is dedicated to Nancy McDaniel, the California women’s golf coach. Donations to the Play for Her campaign can be made here.
