Women's Golf Wins St Andrews Links At Old Course


Freshman Ing Iadpluem shot 4-under 68 and three other Tar Heel women’s golfers won their individual matches Wednesday to beat Vanderbilt, 4-2, to win the inaugural St Andrews Links Collegiate at the famous Open Course.

Kayla Smith, who the women’s tournament’s individual medal after two rounds at the Jubilee Course Monday and Tuesday, Vilde Nystrom and freshman Reagan Southerland also won points for the Tar Heels.

On the men’s side, the Commodores won four of the six matches and halved another to win, 4-1-1.

Maxwell Ford shot 72 and won his match by four strokes to provide UNC with its full point. Dylan Menante birdied the 18th hole to halve his match.

Peter Fountain also shot 72 but lost his match by three strokes.

The tournament in Scotland was the final start of the fall season for the women. 

The men compete October 30–November 1 at the East Lake Cup in Atlanta, Ga. The East Lake Cup has includes the four teams that won quarterfinal matches and advanced to the semifinals in the previous year’s NCAA Tournament.
