KAUA’I, Hawaii – Rutgers women’s golf is in seventh place out of 15 teams after one day of competition at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational at the Ocean Course at Hōkūala.
 

Round 1 – Sunday, March 17

Weather: Temps in low 70s, sunny, 10-20 mph winds

Rutgers shot a 3-over 291 in the first round on Monday in Hawaii, which puts the team in seventh place out of 15. Lorena Rossettin leads the Scarlet Knight on the individual leaderboard after a strong 3-under 69 in her opening round. She sits in a tie for sixth with two rounds remaining. Her day was highlighted by an eagle on the par-five 10th hole as well as birdies on No. 9, No. 15 and No. 16. 

“My ball-striking was solid today and I feel good on these greens,” Rossettin said. “I made some nice putts and I’m getting more comfortable with the course with each day out here. We’re excited to come back out tomorrow for a chance to move up the leaderboard.”

Lucrezia Rossettin followed her younger sister with an even-par 72, good for t-26th on the leaderboard. She rolled in four birdies on the day, tied for the best on the team. 

Leigha Devine and Cathi Graf both shot rounds of 3-over 75 to put them in a tie for 48th. Rikke Nordvik rounded out the team scorers for RU with a 4-over 76. 

Krystal Li had a strong day on the course competing as an individual, as she fired a 1-under 71, good for t-17th. Li played a very clean round and picked up back-to-back birdies on holes No. 3 and 4 to go along with 15 pars. 

Also competing as an individual, Emily James shot a 12-over 84 in her opening round.
