The No. 15 Florida women’s golf team finishes the regular season at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic this weekend in Athens, Ga.

THE FIELD

Alabama, Auburn, Augusta, Charleston, Emory, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Southern, Illinois, Kansas State, Michigan, Missouri, N.C. State, San Diego State, SMU and Virginia.

TOURNAMENT HISTORY

This annual tournament is held in honor of Liz Murphey, former Associate Athletic Director at UGA and women’s intercollegiate sports pioneer. It is one of the oldest women’s collegiate tournaments in the United States.

Florida won the event in 2001-02 season and swept the tournament with Jeanne Cho’s individual victory. The Gators played in the event last year and finished 3rd as a team and Maisie Filler placed 3rd.  

LAST TIME OUT

Florida finished sixth at the Briar’s Creek Invitational led by freshman Inès Archer placing T7 behind a tournament score of 215 (-1). It marked her second top-10 and fourth top-25 finishes of the season.Her first two rounds of 70 (-2) set a new season-low for the first-year Gator.   

NO. 1

Florida women’s golfer Maisie Filler earned the No. 1 ranked player in the country by the NCAA Rankings on Feb. 21. She held the ranking for two weeks and is currently ranked No. 3.

Ranked No. 2, Filler won her third tournament title of the season on Tuesday at the Moon Golf Invitational, in a field that featured 12 top-25 teams. Currently, her three wins are tied for the most in the nation. She is also the eighth Gator all-time to win three medalist honors in a season with Sierra Brooks being the most recent in 2018.

The victory was Filler’s third consecutive in stroke play tournaments as the spring opener was altered to match play only. She went 3-0 in the event with wins against three ranked teams; No. 4 UCLA, No. 8 Texas and No. 20 Pepperdine. 

She shot a 54-hole score of 207 (-9) for a three-shot victory. Filler recorded all three rounds (66-69-72) of par or better with an opening round of 66…
