Wake Forest Leads After Day 1 of the 2024 ACC Men’s Golf Championship


CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Led by senior Michael Brennan’s 5-under 66, Wake Forest closed Friday’s opening round of the 2024 Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Golf Championship at 13-under-par and a four-shot lead heading into Saturday’s second round at Charlotte Country Club.
 
Brennan finished with six birdies on the day, headlined by four on the front nine, as he heads into Saturday as the co-leader with Georgia Tech’s Bartley Forrester. Carding four birdies on the front nine, Forrester also finished with a 66, four strokes lower than his season average. Three players are currently tied for third place at 4-under (67), including GT’s Christo Lamprecht, Clemson’s Jonathan Nielsen, and North Carolina’s Peter Fountain.
 
As a team, the Demon Deacons fired at 271, as four players finished under par. Marshall Meisel and Collin Adams are tied for sixth in the individual standings at 3-under, while Scotty Kennon closed the day at 2-under and is tied for 10th. Finishing the afternoon at 9-under is North Carolina is second at 275. Led by Fountain’s 4-under-par 67, the Tar Heels currently have four players in the top 15 with Austin Greaser tied for sixth (68) and Maxwell and David Ford shooting 1-under and tied for 15th.
 
Georgia Tech is third at 6-under, Florida State is fourth at 4-under and NC State rounded out the top five at 3-under.
 
Second-round action begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 20. Individual and team results can be accessed online via GolfStat’s “Live Scoring” feature.
