Miami Selected to NCAA Auburn Regional – University of Miami Athletics

This will be Miami’s first regional appearance under head coach Janice Olivencia and eighth in the last 10 years (there was not a regional in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic).

“This was truly a team effort. I’m very excited for this group as we battled through a season filled with ups and downs,” Olivencia said. “This team kept grinding and working and, because we are a very young team, we stayed as positive as we could. I’m just really proud of all of them because they earned this. We are grateful and appreciative of the opportunity we have at hand to compete for one of the spots at nationals.”

The Hurricanes recorded three top-five finishes this season, including a pair of wins, and checked in as the No. 50 team in the nation following the ACC Championship.

“This spring, we have been very good at finishing and the ACC Championship was certainly a challenge,” Olivencia said. “We finished strong thanks to huge rounds from Sara Byrne, Olivia Grønborg and Rebekah Gardner. We wouldn’t be here without those three playing the way they did in the final round.”

The Hurricanes will be joined by 11 other teams in Auburn in a field that features seven top-40 teams in the nation. Miami’s fellow competitors are, in order of seed, No. 1 South Carolina, No. 2 Auburn, No. 3 Oregon, No. 4 Georgia, No. 5 North Carolina, No. 6 Michigan, No. 7 Houston, No. 8 Tulsa, No. 10 Kennesaw State, No. 11 East Tennessee State and No. 12 Albany.

There are six regionals (Auburn, Ala.; Bermuda Run, N.C.; Bryan, Texas; Cle Elum, Wash.; East Lansing, Mich., and Las Vegas, Nev.;) with each featuring 12 teams and six individuals. The low five teams and the individual not on those teams will advance to the NCAA Championships May 17-22 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif. Beginning in 2024, regional champion awards will be given to the team champions.
