#7 Vols Fall in SEC Championship Match Play Quarterfinals


ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – The seventh-ranked Tennessee men’s golf team concluded competition at the SEC Championships Saturday, falling in the match play quarterfinals to No. 22 Texas A&M, 3-2.

Evan Woosley-Reed and Bryce Lewis captured wins in the match against the Aggies.

After being down four through the first four holes to Texas A&M’s Michael Heidelbaugh, Woosley-Reed bounced back with a gritty performance for the next 14 holes to gain a one-shot lead on 17 and clinched the win 1up on the 18th hole.

Lewis never trailed in his match against the Aggies’ Aaron Pounds and clinched on hole 15, winning 3&3.

Redshirt freshman Bruce Murphy dropped his match to Jaime Montojo, who won 1up.

Murphy was down three through 11 holes and came back to get the match within one heading into the 18th but ultimately fell short.  

Redshirt senior Jake Hall fell 2&1 to Daniel Rodriguez as Lance Simpson fell 4&2 to Phichaksn Maichon.

The Vols will now begin preparations for NCAA competition. The NCAA Selection Show is set for Wednesday, May 1 at 2 p.m. ET and will air on Golf Channel. NCAA Regionals are scheduled to take place from May 13 through May 18.
