Alabama in Eighth After 36 Holes Played at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate


ALPHARETTA, Ga. – Alabama’s Nick Dunlap is in a tie for fifth overall and continues to lead the men’s golf team after 36 holes of action at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate. As a team, the 12th-ranked Crimson Tide is in eighth place coming into Sunday’s final round of play with a 36-hole total of 5-under par 571 (280-291).

After carding a season-best 7-under par 65 in Friday’s first round, Dunlap finished Saturday’s second round at 1-over 73 to result in a two-day total of 6-under 138 – one of eight individuals tied with the same score. JP Cave is in a tie for 30th at 1-under 143 (69-74). Jonathan Griz, who carded the team’s lowest round of the day with his 2-under 70, is in a tie for 33rd with an even-par 144 (74-70).

The three-day, 54-hole tournament will conclude Sunday at the par 72, 7,017-yard Golf Club of Georgia – Lakeside Course in Alpharetta, Ga.

Round Two Highlights

  • Jonathan Griz recorded his second sub-par round of the season with Saturday’s performance    
  • Nick Dunlap’s 73 was just the third time in 11 rounds this season he shot over par
  • Dunlap continues to lead the field in par 3 scoring (-3, 2.63), while his 14 birdies ranks second among all individual golfers
  • Both JP Cave (-1, 2.86) and Thomas Ponder (-1, 2.86) also rank among the top five in par 3 scoring
  • Ponder is tied for 43rd overall with a 2-over 146 (72-74) while Canon Claycomb (76-75/151) rounds out the Tide golfers in a tie for 66th overall
  • Tyler Lipscomb, who is competing in the event as an individual, is in 75th (82-83/165)

The Field

  • Tournament host and No. 13 Georgia Tech (-21, 555) holds a three-stroke lead on No. 10 Tennessee (-18, 558)
  • No. 25 Pepperdine (-17,559) is in third, followed by No. 5 Stanford (-15, 561) and Clemson (-14, 562) to round out the top five teams
  • The 13-team field features seven teams in the nation’s top 20, including six teams from the 2022 NCAA Championship field
  • Along with the Crimson Tide, other ranked teams on the field include No. 7 Stanford, No. 8 Virginia, No. 9 Texas A&M, No. 10 Tennessee, No. 13 Georgia Tech, No. 20 Pepperdine, Wake Forest, Washington, Duke, East Tennessee State, Clemson and Southern California
