THIS WEEK
With 10 tournaments under their belt in 2022-23, the University of Utah men’s golf team is about to take on perhaps their toughest challenge of the season as they prepare for 72 holes at the 2023 Pac-12 Championships, which will take place from Friday through Sunday at the Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif.

A year ago at this event, Blake Tomlinson led the way for the Utes, posting what is on record as the third-lowest 72-hole score ever by a Ute at a conference championship. His even-par 284 earned him a tie for sixth as the Utes landed in a tie for eighth.

Utah’s lineup at the 2022 Pac-12 Championship also included Braxton Watts and Javier Barcos, who will be back on the course in Stanford. Watts was responsible for the team’s second-best score at last year’s event and his third round 69 tied for Utah’s lowest round of the competition. Barcos did his best work in round two, collecting five birdies on his way to an even-par 71.

One doesn’t have to look back very far to find Utah’s best finish at the Pac-12 Championship. In 2019, led by Kyler Dunkle’s 8-under 276, the Utes claimed a share of fifth place, while Dunkle placed second, the highest individual finish ever by a Utah golfer at the Pac-12 Championships.

THE FIELD
The Utes will be one of a dozen teams vying for the conference title and that list includes six squads ranked inside the Golfweek Top 50, led by No. 2 Arizona State and No. 12 Stanford. The field will also consist of No. 18 Arizona, No. 21 Oregon, No. 37 Washington, No. 50 California, Utah, Colorado, Oregon State, UCLA, USC and Washington State.

UTAH’S LINE-UP
Six Utes will have the chance to take their swings in Stanford and the Utah lineup consists of Javier Barcos, Hunter Howe, Braxton Watts, Brandon Robison, Go Nakatsukasa and Jesper von Reedtz.

COACHES THOUGHTS: Head Coach Garrett Clegg
“We are pumped to be playing at Stanford in the PAC-12 Championships!” said Clegg. “We have a team that has never played on their golf course, so it will be a challenge for the boys, but it is always an amazing event! Stanford does an incredible job hosting all of their events and this will be a championship atmosphere for the…
