PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. – No. 6 South Carolina defeated top-ranked Wake Forest in the semifinals of the Threse Hession Regional Team Challenge on Sunday. The Gamecocks won four of the five matches en route to a 4-1 win.
Junior All-Americans Hannah Darling and Lousie Rydqvist each won 2&1. Sophomore Mia Sandtorv Lussand won 5&4 and senior Sophia Burnett won 4&2. Burnett his making her Gamecock debut this week.
Carolina defeated Arizona 3-2 on Saturday in the team’s opening round match thanks to wins from Darling, Rydqvist and freshman Vairana Heck. The Gamecocks then defeated No. 7 Oregon 3-2 in the quarterfinals later in the day thanks to three victories from the same trio of players.
The Gamecocks face No. 8 Texas in the championship match on Monday at Palos Verdes Golf Club. It will be a 2 p.m. (ET) shotgun start, weather permitting. If weather would cancel the title bout, Carolina would win by way of tiebreaker because of total matches and holes won.

The tournament was original slated to run from Feb. 4-6 with 54 holes of stroke play. Due to inclement weather, the decision was made on Friday to move everything up and change from stroke play to an all-match play format with four brackets.
