Sy Named All-Big Ten First Team

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Isabel Sy has been named All-Big Ten First team, as well as the Illini’s Sportsmanship Award honoree, the conference announced today. It marks the first time in Sy’s career that she has earned postseason conference honors.

The senior, who was named to Big Ten Women’s Golf Watch List in the preseason, captured a total of three Big Ten Women’s Golfer of the Week awards during the campaign, which was tied for the most in the conference.

Sy took home the first individual medalist honor of her career this season, when she was named co-champion of The Chevron Collegiate on Feb. 26-27. The San Gabriel, Calif., native followed up that performance by securing a second-straight co-champion finish at the Briar’s Creek Invitational on March 11-12. She became the first golfer in program history to take home individual honors in back-to-back events since her head coach, Renee Slone, did so during the 1992-93 season.

Sy had a run of six-straight top four finishes during the campaign, starting with a tied-for-fourth at the Windy City Collegiate Classic on Oct. 2-3, 2023, and ending with her tied-for-first finish at the Briar’s Creek Invitational, which was the longest such streak in program history since a run of seven-straight such finishes by Slone, also during the 1992-93 season.

Sy has fired 22 of her 33 rounds at or below par, which included a season-low 65 (-7) at the second round of The Chevron Collegiate. Her 71.00 scoring average is currently the squad’s lowest and would be her career-low mark.

Sy will be back in action on May 6-8, when she heads to East Lansing, Mich., to compete individually at the NCAA East Lansing Regional at Forest Akers Golf Course.
