Hart Receivers First Career SEC Honor, Gators Earn Fourth Straight

For the fourth consecutive week, a Florida men’s golfer was named SEC Golfer of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Florida men’s golfer Ryan Hart added another career first by being named the SEC Golfer of the Week, the league office announced Thursday.

Hart won his first collegiate title on Tuesday at the Daytona Beach Spring Invitational. He set collegiate bests in finish (1), round (68,-4) and tournament score (207, -9). He shot all three rounds under par with two in the 60s (69-68). A bogey-free final round of 70 (-2) guided him to victory by a stroke. The Naples, Florida native recorded 10 birdies and made his first eagle compared to only three bogeys through 54-holes.

The sophomore becomes the fourth Gator to capture medalist honors this season and the second to earn their first collegiate win joining Fred Biondi, Ricky Castillo and Yuxin Lin (first career). He also is the fourth straight Gator to earn the conference weekly honor, joining the trio. The weekly award is the fifth total this spring as Miguel Leal collected SEC Freshman of the Week recognition.

The win also marked the 18th under head coach J.C. Deacon and second time at least four golfers won individual titles, the last being in 2016; Sam Horsfield (3) and Alejandro Tosti (1). Since 1977, the program has had 10 seasons of at least four Gators winning medalist honors.

Florida wraps up the regular season first at the NIT (March 17-18) hosted by Arizona then the finale at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational (April 1-2). The postseason will start on April 19 at the SEC Championship.
