Lopez Ramirez Named to PING WGCA Player of the Year Watch List


CORAL SPRINGS, FlaJulia Lopez Ramirez has been named to the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Division I PING WGCA Player of the Year Watch List, announced by the organization on Tuesday.

Lopez Ramirez is one of seven elite players from around the country to be named to the watch list. Recognized annually as the top honor in women’s collegiate golf, the PING WGCA Player of the Year Award is awarded to the best player in Division I, II, III and NAIA women’s golf. 

Lopez Ramirez, who became the first Bulldog golfer to be named the SEC Player of the Year, finished the regular season with a scoring average of 70.31, the lowest in Mississippi State history and the second lowest in all of collegiate golf this season. After being named the SEC Freshman of the Year last season, Lopez Ramirez has excelled in her sophomore campaign. During the 2022-23 season, Lopez Ramirez has won three individual titles, while placing inside the top five in nine tournaments all while being named the SEC Golfer of the Week three times. Her three individual titles came at the Blessings Collegiate Invite, SEC Championship and most recently, the NCAA Westfield Regional.

The Bulldogs will return to the course on May 19-24 for the 2023 NCAA National Championship from the Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. Championship play will be hosted by Arizona State and The Thunderbirds, with the final three days of the championships televised live by the GOLF Channel.
