Clegg Adds Pair of Transfers to Utah Men's Golf Roster

SALT LAKE CITY – University of Utah men’s golf head coach Garrett Clegg has announced the addition of two new golfers to the program’s roster, former UCLA Bruin Ty Griggs and Peter Jung, who is transferring to Utah from Washington State, and both student-athletes will join the Utes in time for the start of the 2023-24 season.

Griggs comes to Utah after three seasons on the links for UCLA and, over that time, he improved his stroke average from 77.9 as a freshman to 73.7 as a junior. He competed in three tournaments for the Bruins in the spring of 2023 and had perhaps his best performance at the 2023 Pac-12 Championships. Griggs carded a pair of even-par 70’s in rounds two and three at the conference championships and finished with a 4-over 284 that earned him a share of 34th.

Griggs arrived in Los Angeles after a career at East Union High School in which he earned three Oak League Player of the Year awards and was ranked as the top golfer in California. Griggs is a native of Stockton, California and is majoring in History.

“Ty is an outstanding player from northern California,” said head coach Garrett Clegg. “We are excited to have him joining our golf program. We believe that he will have a positive impact and help our team’s depth and he will be a key piece in helping our team get back to the National Championships next year.”

Jung recently completed his second season with the Cougars and he and his teammates started the year by earning a victory at the Husky Invitational. Jung competed in six tournaments for WSU in 2022-23 and registered his best score at the John Burns Intercollegiate in February, where he carded a final round 68. This came following a freshman year in which Jung competed in eight events, posted the team’s fourth-best stroke average and helped the Cougars put up the best team scoring average in program history. He was at his best at the Bandon Dunes Championship, where he tied for sixth, and his par-3 score of 3.1311 was the second-best ever by a WSU freshman.

Jung, a native of Honolulu, Hawaii, arrived in Pullman after a high school career in which he earned Hawaii High School State Athletic Association MVP honors and captured first place at the Interscholastic League of Honolulu (ILH) Championship in 2019. Jung is majoring in Business.
