Malik Named Pac-12 Golfer of Week Following Career Week in Hawai'i

TUCSON, Ariz. – For a second time this season, No. 9 Arizona Men’s Golf earned a Pac-12 Golfer of the Week award as sophomore Yannick Malik earned the honor this week. Malik finished runner-up at the prestigious John A. Burns Intercollegiate over the weekend while helping the Wildcats claim the team title. The Wildcats won the annual event for the first time since 2004 and their fourth all-time victory at the 47-year fixture on the college golf schedule.

The Munich, Germany native opened the three-day tournament with a career low round of 64, beating his previous career best by four strokes. By securing the second-place finish, Malik also notched his first ever top-10 showing in his collegiate career. His successful week in Hawai’i came two weeks after posting his previous career best finish, shooting 10-under par to finish tied for 17th at the Arizona N.I.T.

With the team championship victory at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate, Arizona Men’s Golf has now won a tournament in each of the last seven seasons. The Cats have won 10 tournaments as a team since the start of the 2017-18 season.

Malik’s fellow German golfer, Tiger Christensen, won Arizona’s previous Pac-12 Golfer of the Week award this season. Christensen earned his accolade after winning the Jackson T. Stephens Cup in October while shooting a program record 19-under.

The Wildcats will return to action at the Cabo Collegiate in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico on March 3.
